Why I Built RVi

Every RV inspector has a version of this moment. You're under a fifth-wheel, camera in one hand, checklist in the other, trying to remember if you already photographed the water heater bypass — because the app you're using won't tell you. You finish the job, get back to the office, and now you're syncing files, re-typing notes, hoping nothing got lost in between.

I didn't build RVi because I set out to build inspection software. I built it because I kept hitting the same wall, over and over, and couldn't find a tool that didn't have it.

The tools available to RV inspectors today were never really built for this job. A lot of them started out as home inspection software, or something else adjacent, and got shoehorned into the RV world instead of being designed for it from the ground up. They're old technology wearing a new coat of paint — slow to enter data into, with no real visibility into the things that actually matter in the field, like whether you've filled in everything a report requires or left a gap that's going to bite you later. And most still treat your data as something that lives on a device first and gets "sent up" to the cloud eventually — so the moment something goes wrong with that device, your work is at risk. That's not a minor inconvenience. That's the inspection itself, and the trust the customer placed in you, sitting on shaky ground.

Before I was in the RV industry, I spent my career as a software engineering leader building products for healthcare — an industry where a missed field or a lost record isn't just inconvenient, it's serious. You learn to design for the moment someone is heads-down, under pressure, and the tool either helps them catch a mistake or lets it slide through.

So when I started doing RV inspections myself and ran into the same tooling problems every inspector deals with, I couldn't unsee it. I was looking at this industry through the lens of someone who'd spent years solving exactly this class of problem, just in a different field — and I saw the same functional, efficiency, and process gaps I'd spent a career closing somewhere else.

So I built the tool I actually wanted to use.

RVi is designed around one idea: the software should catch what you might miss, not the other way around. Template validation tracks your progress against reporting standards in real time — flagging required fields you haven't filled in yet, alongside a consolidated, dynamically updating list of every required image for the inspection — so you always know exactly what's left. If something's missing, a field or a photo, you see it immediately, in the field, while you can still do something about it. RVi also carries you through the rest of the job, not just the inspection itself — sending the inspection agreement and the invoice straight from the same platform, no separate tools required. And every screen is built for speed, because inspectors aren't sitting at a desk — you're moving, and the software needs to keep up with that.

Because RVi is cloud-native from the ground up, the moment you enter something in the field, it's just there. Done. No transferring files, no waiting for a sync, no hoping it made it through.

RVi started as something I built to solve my own problem. But the gaps I was running into weren't unique to me — they're the same gaps every inspector in this industry has been working around for years. I've spent my career building software people depend on to get something important right. This is the same work, just pointed at an industry, and a job, that I genuinely love — and I built it so the whole RV inspection industry could benefit from it, not just me.
